Journal 5: The Monroe Prairie Detectives: The Search for Stevie Pointer

Stevie! Come here, boy!

It’s Tuesday morning, and Stevie Pointer is on the third of the library looking at CD’s to check out. After he finds his favorite artist, he heads down to the second floor and drops off the latest edition of The Pointer. His kidnapper spots him. The chase begins. Stevie runs down the stairs to the first floor, through the museum of Natural History, and through  the Food for Thought Café. People eating see the chase and serve as witnesses. Stevie dashes all the way up to the fifth floor bathroom, but he get’s cornered. A student sees all and is taken hostage. He is left tied up among the green shelves in the Zoology section.

Meanwhile downstairs, the police and detectives arrive on the scene. While the police look around, the detectives start their search by getting a description of Stevie in the encyclopedia of dogs on the first floor. They inspect the area and see dog prints going through the museum, which lead them to the café. The Witnesses who spotted Stevie before report the man that appeared to look like Charlie Chaplin, so the detectives run to the fourth floor to look through the autobiographies in hopes of finding books on Charlie to get a better description.  While the police look at pictures of Charlie, students come over and say they heard a commotion on the fifth floor. The detectives go immediately and find the hostage from the bathroom tied up.  He tells the police that he thinks Charlie and Stevie might be on the 6th floor, because he saw them run towards the stairway. The detectives decide not to take any chances and check it out.
Charlie Chaplin is staring out over the university campus through the sixth floor  windows, planning his escape with Stevie, who is tucked in Charlie’s long jacket. Some students walk by with books on U.S. Government Publications, but they don’t take notice to Charlie or Stevie. Stevie notices Charlie distracted by the students, and he makes his move! Knocking over book shelves, flipping over desks, and a fight without weapons; Stevie slips away with Charlie hot on his tail. Stevie storms through a crowd of people coming out of the stairway.  He rushes down to the fifth floor, passing the detectives along the way. The shocked detectives recognize Stevie and right as they’re about to run after him, they come face-to-face with Charlie. Stevie sprints to the fifth floor to hide. As the police come up the stairs to help the detectives, they spot Stevie running through the fifth floor doors. They meet up with the detectives and arrest Charlie. On the way down, they stop on the fifth floor to get Stevie. The detectives call for Stevie and they find him hiding under a desk in the Archives room.

Charlie’s arrested, the mess gets cleaned up, Stevie is fine, and the day is good again.
